Project Development
In recent years, the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation
has been intensely involved in project development. Since 2003,
we have developed two replacement communities, one brand-new continuum
of care retirement community (CCRC), added an independent
living
apartment building to an existing community, opened our first community
in the state of Texas and began construction on a high-rise
CCRC right in the heart of it all, in downtown Chicago.
As a leader in providing a variety of retirement living options,
we are committed to responding to the changing and growing needs
of today's seniors. We understand that the first of the baby boomers
has already turned 60. We know that by 2030 when these first baby
boomers reach the age of 84, there will be 69 million Americans
over the age of 65. We can visualize what the future is bringing
and we are growing to meet the needs of more active adults today
and into the future.
We will continue to strive to be the optimal means which frees
all those we serve to experience the fullness of their lives. We'll
do this by continuing to develop new communities and other senior-based
services to meet the needs of seniors for many years to come. It's
about freedom and creating opportunities for our residents to experience
independence, choices, dignity, individuality, nurturing of the
spirit and involvement of others.
St. Joseph Senior Housing
St. Joseph Senior Housing (SJSH) is dedicated to developing and providing affordable housing for independent seniors aged 62
and up (residents with limited income). SJSH develops safe, maintenance-free communities that provide housing options
without a health care component. It has been created for seniors who have restricted housing options due to personal
financial limitations.
The company was founded in 2003 as part of the overall vision of
the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation to provide
housing for those in need. The first affordable housing community,
St. James Senior Estates, opened in October
2006 and is situated on the campus of
St.
James Manor & Villas in Crete, Illinois.
Franciscan Senior Estates, an affordable housing community
on the campus of Franciscan Health Care Center in Louisville,
Ky., will open in December 2008.
SJSH is planning affordable housing communities in Joliet, Ill., Cleveland,
Ohio, Notre Dame, Ind., Lake County, Ind., Chicago, Ill., San Antonio,
Texas and a second community in Crete, Ill.
